A Nordstrom gift card is a payment method applied at checkout, not a balance you transfer into an account. It spends two ways: online at Nordstrom.com or NordstromRack.com, and in person at any Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store. Online use requires the gift card number plus the 4-digit access code; in store you only need the card itself.

Use this when you are shopping the website or app. The gift card is entered during the payment step and deducted from your total immediately.
- Shop at nordstrom.com or nordstromrack.com and add items to your shopping bag.
- Proceed to checkout and, in the payment section, select Apply a Gift Card.
- Enter your gift card number and your 4-digit access code (also labeled CSC or PIN).
- Select Apply to subtract the gift card value from your order total.
- If a balance remains, add a credit or debit card to cover the rest, then place your order.

In Store at Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack
Use this when you are shopping in person. No access code is needed at the register — the card is scanned directly.
- Bring your items to any register at a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store.
- Hand the physical gift card to the salesperson before payment, or open your eGift card on your phone for them to scan.
- The salesperson applies the gift card value to your purchase and you pay any remaining balance with another method.
For a digital gift card in store, you can also print it and present the printout — the salesperson scans the barcode either way.
Where a Nordstrom Gift Card Works
One Nordstrom gift card spends across the entire Nordstrom family: full-line Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com for designer apparel, shoes, beauty, and accessories, plus Nordstrom Rack stores and NordstromRack.com for the off-price selection. There is no separate Rack-only or Nordstrom-only card — the same card and access code work everywhere.
The card cannot be redeemed for cash (except where state law requires), resold, or exchanged for value, and it is not a credit line or Nordstrom Rewards. If you return an item you paid for with a gift card, Nordstrom refunds the amount to a new digital gift card sent by email rather than to cash.

The card number was mistyped
An “Invalid Gift Card” message at checkout is most often a typo — a zero entered as the letter O, a transposed digit, or trailing whitespace from a copy-paste. Re-enter the gift card number and access code carefully, and for an eGift card copy the values directly from the delivery email rather than retyping them.
A digital card hasn’t activated yet
A freshly purchased eGift card can take a short time to activate before it will apply at checkout. Confirm you received the activation or order-confirmation email, wait a few minutes, then try the code again. The item or promotion is restricted
Some gift sets, promotional bundles, and third-party items have payment restrictions, and a temporary site glitch can briefly make a valid card look invalid.
