Spotify App Update Clears Storage Usage

SPOTIFY NOW ALLOWS CLEARING YOUR CACHE WITHOUT DELETING YOUR DOWNLOADS IN APP

The list of issues with Spotify seems to increase instead of decreasing with time and technological advancements. Over the years, Spotify users have been faced with a confusing situation of either clearing their cache which will also result in clearing all their music downloads along with it or simply leaving it to take more space. But today, we’re updating you on an improvement that happened in the last few weeks with Spotify. Spotify card logo Spotify has now added storage management inside its settings and now you can clear your cache without affecting your downloaded songs. Once you’ve purchased your music using a Spotify gift card, you can now finally delete cache without removing your offline downloads too. Normally, you would head over to your device’s settings, find Spotify in the list of apps, tap on Storage, and then clear cache. But in doing this, you never really knew what you would be deleting along with the cache. Would it be only the app’s cache of media and data from your searches, was it the streaming cache, or maybe both? You never know.

Spotify App taking up too much space

If you use the Spotify app regularly, you might have noticed that the app is taking way too much storage space of your computer or mobile device. The simple explanation is that whenever you are streaming a song from Spotify, it saves the song on your device so that the next time you play that song, it plays directly from the cache, without having to stream the track from its server again. Therefore, the more songs you streamed from Spotify, the more space it consumes on your device.

Fixing the lag problem

Now sometimes lagging occurs when you use the Spotify app.  If you’ve experienced lagging, you know how incredibly frustrating it gets when the song keeps stopping mid-way or has refused to load altogether. When this happens, it might be time to clear the Spotify cache. (Note: if you have a balance from a Spotify gift card, it will remain safely on your account.)The problem with this, however, is that Spotify desktop client doesn’t differentiate between your songs and the actual cache, so you end up deleting your songs while trying to free up some space.

Keep the songs you want, while ditching the huge storage issue

With the new settings option on the Spotify app, you can now remove unwanted data and still get to keep your songs. There’s a filled bar with your Spotify downloads, the app’s cache, used storage, and your free storage. Spotify might be calculating certain things differently so don’t worry if you find a bit of discrepancy when you compare the numbers to the app settings ones on Android.

Spotify listening to the community

The update showed up sometime in the past few weeks. There was a request by a Spotify user in the Spotify Premium music community and a mod replied that he will give the team the feedback. Now, the feature is functional. This really shows that the Spotify team is starting to really listen to its subscribers and they have started to look into the many issues facing the app.  Android and iOS users can now clear the Spotify app cache without affecting their downloaded songs. The new feature is available in the latest version of the Android and iOS apps. The option can be found in Settings > Storage within the app.

How to Redeem a Spotify Gift Card

Do you have a Spotify gift card that you need to redeem? Great! Spotify Premium provides a great service, so it’s a real treat to have access to it. The assumption, of course, is that you’ll be using the gift card to access US Spotify, which is known to have the best content; however, it was designed to cater exclusively to those in the country. The easy solution to getting access to it outside the US is to use a VPN service. To redeem a Spotify gift card is quite easy. There’s only one set of steps since you can’t redeem gift codes on the mobile app. You’ll have to go through a browser and log into Spotify from there, after which you redeem your code exactly as you would on a desktop, but there are special instances that require a few extra steps to the process. For instance, as mentioned above, those outside the US should make sure that they switched on their VPN before attempting redemption.   vpn-redeem-code So, how do you redeem a Spotify gift card? First things first: Turn on your computer and connect to the Internet. After that, do the following:
  • Log into your correct account, or if you’re a completely new to it, create an account. Obviously, you can use a gift card to renew an existing subscription.
  • Once you’re in, click your username in the top right corner and click “Account.”
  • Check out the menu on the left and scroll down until your get to “Redeem.” Click it.
  • Enter the gift code (this would have been emailed to you by the online digital cards retailer like MyGiftCardSupply).
  • If you are asked for a zip code, you can enter 90210, or you might need to find what city you are using on your account (or the city of the IP you are using if you are on VPN, then google what zip codes are in that city.
  • Start streaming music.
There are some reminders to note:
  • If you are receiving an error about a non-activated code, please make sure you are using the proper code on the card. A lot of times it’s easy to mix the letter O and the number 0. They look very similar on the card, so try switching them out.
  • It’s a good idea to activate the gift card within 12 months of its purchase date. Spotify can be a little finicky.
  • If you have multiple accounts, make sure that you redeem it in the correct one.
  • You cannot use gift codes in conjunction with other discounts and promos such as Premium for Family.

  • Search and play all you want – You can simply search for the song you want and play it.
  • Offline listening – You can download tracks for free and access them offline.
  • Better audio –You can access songs in a 320 kb/ps format instead of the 160 kb/ps one for free users.

There are ways to access the paid Spotify Premium service for free, but you have to be careful which tips to follow. For instance, you should steer clear of Spotify Premium free code generators. They’re illegal and dangerous. They’ll require you to enter your details, which they’ll use for shady activities such as spamming you and installing malware in your system. There are other similar options as well:
  • Hacked free Spotify Premium Android app is misleading since it doesn’t really offer any other perk than unlimited skips.
  • Time shifting capitalizes on a software bug in Spotify, giving you more than a year of free trial instead of seven days, but also exposing you to errors and the possibility of getting charged for the service.

  • Spotify USA, which offers the best content, is currently offering the service at just 33 cents a month. You can get around the location restriction by using a Spotify Premium gift cardbought from a reputable online retailer like MyGiftCardSupply and a VPN.When the price reverts ($10 for a month; $30 for 3; and $60 for 6) and you don’t want to pay the standard fee, just cancel your subscription by clicking “Subscription” on the left side of your account page and then clicking “Cancel my subscription.”Should you want to continue to access the US site for the best content, you can keep on doing so with a Spotify Premium gift card and a VPN.
  • Free trials normally last seven days, but can be extended up to three or even six months. Some have also used multiple accounts to enjoy them much longer.
  • You can refer a friend and if they install the service, you get free access for a month.
  • If you install Spotify Premium with PlayStation, you only get to pay $2 for the service.
  • If you get the Spotify Family Pack for $15, up to five of your family members can access the service. That amounts to about $3 per user.
  • If you can verify that you’re a college student, you can get a 50 percent discount.
The thing you should know, though,is that Spotify has been running at a loss. It’s a great service, so why not patronize it in the right way by paying the fee asked?
