How to Redeem an Uber Gift Card
One code becomes Uber Cash for both rides and Uber Eats
An Uber gift card adds value to a single Uber Cash balance that works for rides and food alike. Redeem it in the Uber app, the Uber Eats app, or at uber.com — here's how, plus what to do when a code won't take.
How to Redeem an Uber Gift Card
To redeem an Uber gift card, open the Uber or Uber Eats app, go to Account → Wallet → Gift Card, and enter the gift code — or sign in at uber.com and add it under Wallet. The value lands in your Uber Cash balance and works for both rides and Uber Eats orders at checkout.
Where to Redeem Your Uber Gift Card
Uber takes the same gift code in two places: either Uber app — the rides app or the Uber Eats app — or the web. Wherever you enter it, the value is added to one Uber Cash balance on your account, so a card bought as an “Uber Eats” card still works for rides, and vice versa.
In the Uber or Uber Eats App
The app is the most common path, since you’re already signed in to the account you ride and order with. The steps are the same in both the rides app and the Uber Eats app.
- Open the latest version of the Uber app or Uber Eats app.
- Tap the Account icon, then tap Wallet.
- Tap + Gift Card, then Enter Gift Code.
- Enter the gift code and confirm to add the value to your Uber Cash.
If you don’t see the gift card option, update the app first — the wallet layout changes between versions.
On the Web (uber.com)
The web flow works from any browser and adds the value to the same Uber Cash balance your apps use.
- Sign in to your account at uber.com.
- Open the Wallet section of your account.
- Click Add Payment Method and select Gift Card.
- Enter the gift card code and click Add.
Once added, the balance shows as Uber Cash and applies automatically the next time you take a ride or place an Uber Eats order.
How Uber Cash Works for Rides and Uber Eats
An Uber gift card doesn’t lock you into one service. The value becomes Uber Cash — a single prepaid balance on your account — and Uber applies it automatically at checkout for UberX and other rides as well as Uber Eats food and grocery orders. There’s no separate “Eats balance” to manage; the same Uber Cash covers both.
You can hold up to $1,000 in gift card credit on an account. Uber still asks for a valid payment method such as a credit card on file even when you have Uber Cash, and the balance can’t be used for cash tips, family profiles, or scheduled rides. Treat Uber Cash as credit that covers most of your fare or order, with your card on file as the backup.
- Use it for: UberX and other rides, plus Uber Eats food and grocery orders — all from one balance.
- Best match: someone who uses both Uber rides and Uber Eats and wants prepaid credit instead of relying on a card every time.
Why Your Uber Gift Card Isn’t Working
Most Uber gift card problems come down to the country the card was bought in, the state of the code, or how Uber Cash is set up to work alongside a payment method. Match what you saw to the section below before contacting support.
The card is for a different country
Uber gift cards can only be used in the country where they were purchased, and Uber checks this against your account and location at redemption. A card from another country returns an error even with a valid code. Use a gift card issued for the same country as your Uber account.
“Gift code already redeemed”
This message means the code has already been added to an Uber account — sometimes by a family member who had access to the card. Check the Uber Cash balance on the accounts you use. If you bought the card from MyGiftCardSupply and never redeemed it, contact MyGiftCardSupply support with your order number; codes are verified before delivery and replacements are handled on the seller side.
Uber still asks for a payment method
This isn’t an error. Uber requires a valid payment method, such as a credit or debit card, on file at all times for the gift card balance to work — Uber Cash covers the charge, but the card stays on the account as a backup. Add a payment method, and your Uber Cash will apply first at checkout.
The code is invalid or mistyped
Enter the gift code exactly as delivered, and watch for look-alike characters like an “O” for a “0”. For a digital card, copy and paste the code straight from your delivery email instead of retyping it, then add it again.
Your Uber Eats gift card shows as expired
Standard Uber gift cards don’t expire, but Uber Eats-branded gift cards are valid for 12 months and lapse if they aren’t redeemed within that window. If an Uber Eats card is past a year old and won’t redeem, the expiration is the likely cause — redeem new cards promptly to avoid it.
Add More Uber Cash with Another Gift Card
People pick up another Uber gift card when their Uber Cash runs low, when they want to budget rides and food with prepaid credit, or when a foreign payment card keeps getting declined by Uber. Because the value goes straight to Uber Cash, a gift card is the simplest way to keep both rides and Uber Eats funded.
