Quick Answer: Redeeming Your Xbox Gift Card

To redeem an Xbox gift card, sign in to your Microsoft account at microsoft.com/redeem and enter the 25-character code from the back of the card. The balance lands in your Microsoft account within seconds and is ready to spend on Xbox games, downloadable content, Xbox Game Pass, movies, and other Microsoft Store purchases tied to that account.

Where to Redeem Your Xbox Gift Card

Microsoft accepts the 25-character code on three surfaces: an Xbox console, the Xbox app on a Windows PC, or the web. The balance always lands in the same place — the Microsoft account you are signed in to — so pick the surface you already have open and use the steps below.

On an Xbox Console (Series X|S and Xbox One)

Console redemption is the fastest path when you are already playing. The console signs you in automatically with the Microsoft account attached to your gamertag.

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
  2. Select Store to open the Microsoft Store app.
  3. Select your profile icon in the top-right, then choose Redeem code or gift cards.
  4. Enter the 25-character code and select Next.
  5. Confirm the redemption to add the balance to your Microsoft account.

If you have more than one Microsoft account signed in to the console, check the profile icon before entering the code — the balance attaches to whichever account is active, and it cannot be moved afterward.

On a Windows PC (Xbox app)

The Xbox app on Windows uses the same Microsoft account as the console. Use this surface when you are buying or installing games on PC and want the balance available there.

  1. Press the Start button and search for Xbox, then open the Xbox app.
  2. Select your gamerpic in the top-left, then choose Settings.
  3. Under Redeem a code, select Redeem.
  4. Enter the 25-character code and select Next.
  5. Confirm to apply the balance to your Microsoft account.

The Xbox mobile app does not currently support code redemption — use the web flow below if you are on a phone or tablet.

On the Web (microsoft.com/redeem)

The web flow works from any browser on any device and is the shortest path when you are not in front of a console or the Xbox app.

  1. Go to microsoft.com/redeem and sign in to your Microsoft account.
  2. Enter the 25-character digital code.
  3. Select Next and confirm to apply the balance.

Make sure you are signed in to the correct Microsoft account before you submit the code — Microsoft cannot move balance between accounts after redemption.

What You Can Buy with an Xbox Gift Card Balance

Once the balance is on your Microsoft account, it spends like prepaid currency inside the Microsoft Store. You can use it for full Xbox game downloads, downloadable content, in-game items, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions, movie and TV rentals or purchases, and most apps available in your store region.

The balance does not cover Microsoft hardware, subscriptions billed directly to a card on file outside the Microsoft Store, or purchases on a different storefront — and it is not a Microsoft 365 or Office subscription on its own. Treat it as Microsoft Store wallet credit attached to one account.

  • Use it for: Xbox games, DLC, Xbox Game Pass, in-game currency, movies and TV from the Microsoft Store.
  • Best match: a player or household that wants to fund Microsoft Store purchases without putting a card on file.

Why Your Xbox Gift Card Code Isn’t Working

Most Xbox redemption failures fall into one of four buckets. Match the error you saw to the section below before contacting support — the fix is usually a quick check on the account or the code itself.

“Wrong region” — error code XBOS3004

Xbox gift cards are issued in a specific country and currency, and Microsoft checks the card’s region against the region set on the Microsoft account at redemption time. A card from a different region is declined with error XBOS3004 even if you are physically in the matching country. Changing the account’s region setting alone usually does not fix this — Microsoft requires the account region to match the card’s issue region at the moment of redemption, and the safer path is to obtain a card that matches the account.

“This code has already been redeemed”

The code has been entered successfully on another Microsoft account, or on your own account already, and Microsoft cannot apply it a second time. If you bought the card directly from MyGiftCardSupply and have not redeemed it, contact MyGiftCardSupply support with the order number — codes are checked before delivery and replacements are handled on the seller side.

“The code isn’t valid” or “We couldn’t redeem this code”

This is usually a typo. The Xbox code is exactly 25 alphanumeric characters with dashes that the redeem form inserts automatically; an “O” entered instead of a “0”, a missed character, or a paste with trailing whitespace can all trigger this. Re-enter the code carefully, ideally copy-pasted directly from the delivery email, and try again.

Redeemed to the wrong Microsoft account

If the code applied but you do not see the balance, you may have been signed in to a different Microsoft account than the one you use to play. Microsoft does not transfer Xbox gift card balance between accounts after redemption. Check which account is active in the Xbox app or on Xbox.com and sign in there to use the balance.

Where to Buy an Xbox Gift Card Online

Players usually look for another Xbox gift card for one of three reasons: they used the balance from the first card, they want a different region than their current store, or their overseas payment card was declined at Xbox checkout. In all three cases, a gift card is the cleanest way to add Microsoft account balance without putting a new payment method on file.

Buy an Xbox gift card online from MyGiftCardSupply — codes are delivered by email in the region that matches your Microsoft account, so you can redeem the same day you purchase. Both Xbox Live (legacy term) and modern Xbox gift cards apply to the same Microsoft account balance once redeemed.
