How to Redeem a Nintendo eShop Card on Nintendo Switch

On your Switch or Switch 2 console, or the web — and why region has to match

Open the Nintendo eShop on your Switch, choose your account, and enter the 16-character code — or redeem at ec.nintendo.com/redeem. The funds land on your Nintendo Account balance for your account's region, ready to spend on games, DLC, and Switch Online.

Redeem a Nintendo eShop Card on Your Switch

To redeem a Nintendo eShop card on a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, open the Nintendo eShop from the HOME menu, choose your account, select Enter Code, and type the 16-character download code. The funds are added straight to your Nintendo Account balance for your account’s region and are ready to spend in the eShop — or redeem the same code at ec.nintendo.com/redeem in a browser.

Two Ways to Add eShop Funds on Switch

The same 16-character code redeems in two places: directly on the Switch or Switch 2 console, or on the web. Both add the value to the Nintendo Account you sign in with, and the card’s country has to match that account’s region. Use whichever you have handy — the console is fastest if it’s already on your account.

On a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 console

Redeeming on the console is the quickest path when the system is already signed in to the account you play on. The steps are identical on Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, the OLED model, and Nintendo Switch 2.

  1. From the HOME menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon.
  2. Select the account you want to add the funds to.
  3. Select Enter Code on the left side of the screen.
  4. Enter the 16-character download code and select OK.
  5. Confirm to add the value to that account’s balance.

Double-check the account you chose at step 2 — the balance attaches to that Nintendo Account and can’t be moved to another one afterward.

On the web (ec.nintendo.com/redeem)

The web flow runs from any browser and is handy for loading funds before you next pick up the Switch.

  1. Go to ec.nintendo.com/redeem, select Sign In, and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
  2. Confirm the account shown is the one you want to receive the funds.
  3. Enter the 16-character download code and select Next.
  4. Re-enter your Nintendo Account password when prompted, then select Redeem.

Online redemption only works once that account has opened the Nintendo eShop on a Switch or Switch 2 at least once — on a brand-new account, redeem on the console first.

What eShop Funds Cover on Switch

After it’s redeemed, the value becomes Nintendo Account balance and spends like store credit across the Switch and Switch 2 eShop. Use it for full digital game downloads, downloadable content and expansion passes, in-game currency, indie titles, and pre-orders — and you can pay for a Nintendo Switch Online or Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership from the same balance.

The funds don’t buy consoles, amiibo, or accessories at retail, and Nintendo doesn’t move balance between accounts. The balance is also tied to your account’s country, so treat it as eShop credit on one Nintendo Account in one region.

  • Use it for: Switch games, DLC, in-game currency, pre-orders, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • Best match: a Switch or Switch 2 owner who wants to buy digital games without saving a card on the console.

Nintendo eShop Code Errors on Switch — and the Fix

Nearly every failed redemption on a Switch traces back to region, the state of the code, or an account that isn’t ready for online redemption yet. Match what you saw on screen to the section below before reaching out to support.

The card’s region doesn’t match your account

Nintendo eShop cards are region-locked: a card bought for one country only redeems on a Nintendo Account set to that same country. A United States card won’t work on an account set to Europe or Japan, even on the same Switch. Redeem the card on an account registered to its country, or buy a card issued for your account’s region.

Changing your account region wipes leftover balance

If you switch your Nintendo Account’s country to accept a card, any unspent eShop balance from the old region is forfeited and can’t be recovered. Spend the existing balance down first, or keep a separate account per country instead of switching back and forth.

“This code has already been redeemed”

The code was entered successfully on a Nintendo Account already — check the eShop purchase history on the accounts you use to confirm. If you bought the card from MyGiftCardSupply and never redeemed it, contact MyGiftCardSupply support with your order number; codes are verified before delivery and replacements are handled on the seller side.

The code is invalid or won’t enter

This is almost always a typo. Nintendo never uses the letters O, I, and Z or hyphens in a download code, so an “O” you see is really a zero. Watch other look-alikes too, such as B for 8 or S and G for 5. Re-enter the 16 characters carefully, and for a digital card, paste the code from the delivery email instead of retyping it.

The account hasn’t opened the eShop on a Switch yet

Redeeming online at ec.nintendo.com/redeem requires that the Nintendo Account has opened the Nintendo eShop on a Switch or Switch 2 at least once. If the web page won’t let a brand-new account redeem, open the eShop on the console first and come back — or just enter the code on the Switch directly.

Need More eShop Funds?

Players come back for another Nintendo eShop card once they’ve spent their balance, want funds on an account in a specific country, or need to buy Switch games without saving a card on the console. Topping up with a card keeps purchases on one Nintendo Account and skips entering payment details on the system.

Buy a Nintendo eShop card online from MyGiftCardSupply — codes are delivered by email for the region you choose, so you can redeem on your Switch or Switch 2, or at ec.nintendo.com/redeem, and add funds the same day.
