Q: Where do I enter my Nintendo eShop code?

Two places: the Nintendo eShop on a Switch (Enter Code in the left menu) or ec.nintendo.com/redeem in any browser. Both add the funds to the same Nintendo Account balance. Online redemption needs the account to have opened the eShop on a Switch at least once.

Q: Why isn't my Nintendo eShop card code working?

Q: Can I use a US Nintendo eShop card on a European or Japanese account?

No. Nintendo eShop cards are region-locked, so a US card only works on a Nintendo Account set to the United States. Redeem the card on an account registered to the same country, or buy a card issued for your account’s region.

Q: Do Nintendo eShop cards expire?

In most regions, including the US and EU, Nintendo eShop cards don’t expire, so you can redeem yours whenever you’re ready. Promotional or retailer-specific codes can be the exception and may carry a date — check anything printed with the code.

Q: Can I transfer my Nintendo eShop balance to another account?

No. Nintendo attaches the balance to the account it was redeemed on and doesn’t move funds between accounts. Choose the account you actually play on before you confirm the code — there’s no undo afterward.

Q: What happens to my eShop balance if I change my account's region?

Any unspent balance from the old region is lost and can’t be recovered. If you plan to change your Nintendo Account’s country, spend the existing balance first, or keep a separate account per region instead of switching.

How to Redeem a Nintendo eShop Card

To redeem a Nintendo eShop card, open the Nintendo eShop on your Switch, choose your account, select Enter Code, and type the 16-character code — or go to ec.nintendo.com/redeem in a browser. The funds are added to your Nintendo Account balance for your account’s region and are ready to spend in the eShop.

Where to Redeem Your Nintendo eShop Code

Nintendo takes the same 16-character code in two places: on the Switch itself or on the web. Both add the value to the Nintendo Account you’re signed in to, and the card’s region has to match that account. Pick whichever surface you have in front of you.

On a Nintendo Switch

Redeeming on the console is the most direct path when the Switch is already on the account you play with.

From the HOME menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon.
Choose the Nintendo Account you want to add the funds to.
Select Enter Code from the menu on the left.
Enter the 16-character code and select OK.
Confirm the funds to add them to that account’s balance.

Check which account you picked at step 2 — the balance attaches to that Nintendo Account and can’t be moved to another one later.

On the Web (ec.nintendo.com/redeem)

The web flow works from any browser and is useful when you want to load funds before you next pick up the console.

Go to ec.nintendo.com/redeem and select Sign In, then sign in to your Nintendo Account.
Check the account shown in the top-right corner is the one you want to receive the funds.
Enter the 16-character download code and select Next.
Re-enter your Nintendo Account password when prompted, then select Redeem.

Online redemption only works once the account has opened the Nintendo eShop on a Switch at least once — until then, redeem on the console.

What You Can Buy with Nintendo eShop Funds

Once redeemed, the value becomes Nintendo Account balance and spends like store credit in the eShop. Use it for full game downloads, downloadable content and expansion passes, in-game currency, indie titles, and pre-orders — and you can pay for a Nintendo Switch Online membership from the same balance.

The funds don’t buy physical consoles, amiibo, or accessories at retail, and Nintendo doesn’t transfer balance between accounts. The balance is also tied to your account’s region, so treat it as eShop credit on one Nintendo Account in one country.

Why Your Nintendo eShop Code Isn’t Working

Most Nintendo eShop failures come down to region, the state of the code, or an account that isn’t set up for online redemption yet. Match what you saw to the section below before contacting support.

The card’s region doesn’t match your account

Nintendo eShop cards are region-locked: a card bought for the United States only works on a Nintendo Account set to the United States, and won’t redeem on a European or Japanese account. The card’s region is fixed — redeem it on an account registered to the same country, or use a card that matches your account’s region.

Changing your account region erases leftover balance

If you switch your Nintendo Account’s country to match a card, any unspent eShop balance from the old region is forfeited and can’t be recovered. Spend down the existing balance before changing region, or keep a separate account for each country rather than switching back and forth.

“This code has already been redeemed”

The code was entered successfully on a Nintendo Account already — check the eShop purchase history on the accounts you use. If you bought the card from MyGiftCardSupply and never redeemed it, contact MyGiftCardSupply support with your order number; codes are verified before delivery and replacements are handled on the seller side.

The code is invalid or won’t enter

This is usually a typo. The code is 16 characters; watch for look-alike characters such as an “O” for a “0” or an “I” for a “1”. Re-enter it carefully, and for a digital card, copy and paste the code from the delivery email rather than retyping it.

The account hasn’t used the eShop on a Switch yet

Online redemption at ec.nintendo.com/redeem requires that the Nintendo Account has opened the Nintendo eShop on a Switch console at least once. If the web page won’t let you redeem on a brand-new account, open the eShop on the console first, then return to the web flow — or just redeem on the Switch directly.
