How to Redeem an Instacart Gift Card
Add the code in the app or on the web, then apply the balance at checkout
An Instacart gift card adds credit to your Instacart account, not to a single order. Add the code once under Credits, promos & gift cards, then choose it as a payment method when you check out.

To redeem an Instacart gift card, sign in to your Instacart account, open Credits, promos & gift cards under your account menu, select Add, and enter the code from the back of the card or your delivery email. The balance lands in your account as gift card credit right away — but it does not apply on its own, so select it as a payment method the next time you check out.
How to Add Your Instacart Gift Card to Your Account
Instacart accepts the same gift card code in two places: the Instacart app on your phone or the Instacart website in any browser. Either way the code adds credit to your account — not to one specific order — and that credit waits in Credits, promos & gift cards until you choose it at checkout. Use whichever surface you already have open.
In the Instacart App (iPhone and Android)
The app is the quickest route if you shop on your phone, since you are already signed in to the account the credit should land on.
- Open the Instacart app and log in, or tap Sign up to create an account.
- Tap the Account icon in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Credits, promos & gift cards.
- Tap Add, then enter the gift card code.
- Tap Redeem to load the balance onto your account.
Your gift card credit then appears at the top of the same Credits, promos & gift cards screen, where you can tap View balances for a full breakdown.
On the Instacart Website
The website works from any desktop or mobile browser and is the easiest path when you are not in the app.
- Go to instacart.com and sign in, or create an account.
- Click the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner to open the menu.
- Click Credits, promos & gift cards.
- Click Add and enter the gift card code.
- Click Add funds to apply the balance to your account.
The credit shows at the top of the Credits, promos & gift cards page; click View balances to see exactly how much is left.
How to Apply the Balance at Checkout
Adding the code only loads the credit — it does not spend it. Instacart gift cards do not apply automatically, so you choose the balance yourself when you place an order. In the Pay with section of checkout, select Edit, find your card under Benefits and gift cards, and select apply. Gift card credit is used before your other payment methods, so the card on file is only charged for anything the balance doesn’t cover.
Instacart still asks for a credit or debit card on file even when the gift card covers the full order, because checkout places a temporary authorization hold slightly above the estimated total to account for item changes and price adjustments while your order is shopped. For cards loaded after November 18, 2020, the balance covers the entire order — items, tips, taxes, service fees, and delivery fees, including alcohol and prescriptions.
Why Your Instacart Gift Card Code Isn’t Working
Most Instacart redemption problems come down to one of the issues below. Check the code and the account first — the fix is usually a quick correction rather than a support ticket.
“The code is invalid”
This is almost always a typo or a stray space. Copy the code directly from your delivery email rather than retyping it, and make sure no blank space slipped in before or after it. Confirm too that you are on the right account — if you have more than one Instacart login, the credit may already sit on a different one.
“This code has already been redeemed”
The code was entered successfully once already — on your account or someone else’s — and Instacart will not load it twice. If you bought the card from MyGiftCardSupply and never redeemed it, contact MyGiftCardSupply support with your order number so the code can be reviewed and replaced on the seller side.
The card isn’t active yet
A freshly purchased gift card can take up to 24 hours to activate before it will redeem. If you just received the code and it won’t load, wait a few hours and add it again before assuming anything is wrong with the card.
Wrong country
Instacart gift cards can only be purchased, sent, and redeemed within the same country you live in, and Instacart can’t accept retailer-specific gift cards through this flow. Make sure the card was issued for your country’s Instacart account and that you are redeeming it as an Instacart gift card, not a store card.
