How to Redeem a Home Depot Gift Card
Online at homedepot.com or at the register — and what to do when the card won't apply
A Home Depot gift card is spendable money on the card itself, not a code you load into an account. Enter the card number and PIN at checkout, or hand the card to a cashier. Pick your surface below.

Quick Answer: Using Your Home Depot Gift Card
To redeem a Home Depot gift card online, add your items at homedepot.com, go to the Payment section at checkout, choose Apply a Gift Card, and enter the gift card number and 4-digit PIN. The value applies straight to your order, and any leftover balance stays on the card for next time. You can also spend it at any U.S. Home Depot register.
Where to Use Your Home Depot Gift Card
A Home Depot gift card works in two places: online at homedepot.com and in person at any Home Depot store in the United States. There is no account to “load” the card into — the balance lives on the card number and PIN, so you enter them at the moment of payment. Use whichever surface fits how you shop.
At Checkout on HomeDepot.com
Use this when you are ordering tools, appliances, lumber, or anything else for pickup or delivery. The card is applied during payment, not beforehand.
- Go to homedepot.com and sign in to, or create, your Home Depot account.
- Add the items you want to your cart and select Proceed to Checkout.
- In the Payment section, choose Apply a Gift Card.
- Enter the gift card number and the 4-digit PIN, then select Apply.
- Review the updated total and place the order; if the order costs more than the card, pay the difference with another method.
The PIN is the short number under the scratch-off panel on a physical card, or the four digits printed in your eGift email — the card number alone will not apply at checkout.
At a U.S. Home Depot Store
In person, the gift card is a tender like cash. This is the quickest path for same-day project runs and worth keeping in mind for an eGift you received by email.
- Bring your items to any register at a U.S. Home Depot store.
- Hand the physical card to the cashier, or show the printed or on-screen eGift with its barcode.
- Tell the cashier to apply it as your gift card payment; the value comes off your total automatically.
- Pay any remaining balance with another method — the unused amount stays on the card.
If you have an eGift card and would rather not carry your phone to the register, print the email so the cashier can scan the barcode directly.
What You Can Buy with a Home Depot Gift Card
A Home Depot gift card spends across the full catalog: power tools, hand tools, appliances, flooring, paint, lumber and building materials, garden and outdoor supplies, and home décor. It also covers Home Depot services such as professional installation, and it works the same online and in store across 2,000-plus U.S. locations.
The card is store credit, not a general-purpose payment card — it only works at Home Depot, cannot be converted to cash (except where state law requires it for small balances), and is issued for one country. A U.S. card is for U.S. stores and homedepot.com.
- Use it for: tools, appliances, lumber, paint, flooring, garden supplies, and installation services at Home Depot.
- Best match: a DIYer or pro who shops Home Depot and wants spendable balance without putting a card on file.
Why Your Home Depot Gift Card Isn’t Applying
Most Home Depot redemption problems come down to the PIN, a mistyped card number, or using a U.S. card where it isn’t accepted. Match what you saw to the fix below before calling support.
The PIN is scratched off or unreadable
The 4-digit PIN under the scratch-off panel is required at checkout, and online redemption fails without it. If the panel was damaged when the card was opened, keep the card and purchase receipt and contact Home Depot gift card support at 1-800-466-3337 to verify the card and recover or reset the PIN. If you bought the card from MyGiftCardSupply, the PIN is printed in your delivery email — copy it directly from there.
“Invalid card” or the number won’t apply
This is almost always a typo in the long gift card number. Re-enter it carefully, with no spaces, ideally copy-pasted from your eGift email rather than read off a card. Confirm you are entering the full gift card number and the separate 4-digit PIN in the correct fields — swapping the two will be rejected.
A U.S. card used in Canada or on HomeDepot.ca
Home Depot issues U.S. and Canadian gift cards separately. A U.S. card is valid at U.S. stores and homedepot.com; Home Depot Canada states that U.S. cards are not accepted online at HomeDepot.ca, and a Canadian card is for Canadian stores. Use the card in the country it was issued for, and buy a card matched to the store you plan to shop.
Where to Buy a Home Depot Gift Card Online
People look for another Home Depot gift card for a few reasons: they spent the balance on a project, they want to send one to a contractor or family member, or they need a U.S. card to shop homedepot.com from outside the country. A gift card is the cleanest way to do that without sharing a credit card.
Buy a Home Depot gift card online from MyGiftCardSupply — the card number and PIN are delivered by email within minutes, so you can apply it at homedepot.com checkout the same day. Cards are issued for the U.S. store, ready to use online or printed for an in-store run.
