- Sign in at eBay.com and open the Add gift card page from your account’s gift card section.
- Enter your redemption code and select the option to add it.
- The amount is stored as eBay gift card funds on your account and applies automatically at your next checkout.
Confirm your account’s region, billing, and shipping all match the card — a US card needs a US account, and a VPN set to another country can block the redemption.

- Add an eligible item to your cart and proceed to checkout on eBay.com.
- Enter your shipping and payment details, then scroll to the Gift cards and coupons field.
- Enter the redemption code and select Apply to see your updated total.
- Review the order and select Confirm and pay.
If the order total is more than your gift card balance, eBay charges the difference to another method — credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Redeeming at checkout also links the card to your account, so any remaining balance is there next time.
What You Can and Can’t Buy With an eBay Gift Card
An eBay gift card spends like cash on most of eBay.com — electronics, fashion, collectibles, home goods, parts, and the millions of other listings across the marketplace, from Buy It Now items to auctions you’ve won.
eBay blocks gift cards on a specific list, though. You can’t use one to buy other eBay gift cards, third-party gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, coins, paper money, virtual currency, or bullion such as gold and silver, and they don’t apply to categories like real estate or vehicles. eBay also caps how much gift card value you can redeem within a given window, so a very large order may need another payment method alongside the card.

Why Your eBay Gift Card Isn’t Working
Most eBay gift card failures come down to region rules or the item you’re trying to buy. Match your situation to the item below before contacting eBay.
Your card’s region doesn’t match your account
eBay gift cards are region-specific: a US card works on eBay.com with a US account, a UK card on eBay.co.uk, and so on. eBay checks the card’s region against your account, billing, and shipping at redemption, so a mismatch — or a VPN set to another country — blocks the card. Turn off any VPN and make sure your account details match the region the card was issued for.
“Invalid code” or “already redeemed”
Re-enter the redemption code exactly as delivered, with no extra spaces. An “already redeemed” message means the code has been applied once already. The item can’t be bought with a gift card
If the code is valid but checkout won’t accept it, the listing may be on eBay’s gift card exclusion list — other gift cards, currency, coins, bullion, vehicles, and real estate among them. Apply the balance to an eligible listing instead.
You’ve hit a redemption limit
eBay caps how much gift card value can be redeemed within a set time window. If a large or rapid series of redemptions is declined, wait for the window to reset or cover part of the order with another payment method.
