How to Redeem a Chipotle Gift Card

A Chipotle gift card isn't a code you redeem once — you save it as a payment method on your Chipotle account and draw it down order by order. Here's how on every surface, plus what to do if the card won't load.

To use a Chipotle gift card, sign in at chipotle.com or in the Chipotle app, open Payment Methods, choose Add a Gift Card, and enter the 16-digit card number and PIN. The card is saved to your account, and you select it at checkout to pay. It works in the U.S. only and never expires.
Three Ways to Pay with a Chipotle Gift Card
A Chipotle gift card carries its own balance — you add the 16-digit card number and PIN to your Chipotle account once, then spend the balance over as many orders as it takes. Use whichever surface you order from: the chipotle.com website, the Chipotle app, or the counter inside a restaurant.
On chipotle.com (saved to your account)
Saving the card to your account on the website is the best path when your balance is below your order total, because chipotle.com lets you split the bill across a gift card and a second payment method.
- Sign in to your account at chipotle.com.
- Open your profile and select Payment Methods.
- Choose Add a Gift Card and enter the 16-digit card number and the PIN.
- Build your order, then at checkout select the gift card as your payment method.
- If the order costs more than the card balance, add a credit or debit card to cover the difference.
The card stays saved on your account, so you only enter the number and PIN once — every later order can draw from the remaining balance.
In the Chipotle app (iPhone or Android)
The app uses the same Chipotle account as the website, so a card you already added on the web is available here too. One limitation: the app accepts a single payment method per order.
- Open the Chipotle app and sign in to your account.
- Tap the profile icon, then open Payment Methods.
- Tap Add a Gift Card and enter the 16-digit card number and PIN.
- Build your order and, at checkout, select the gift card to pay.
Because the app allows only one payment method per order, a gift card whose balance is lower than your total will be declined in the app — order on chipotle.com instead so you can split the payment.
In a restaurant (at the counter)
You don’t need an account to spend a Chipotle gift card in person — hand it to the cashier with your order.
- Order at the counter inside any U.S. Chipotle restaurant.
- Present the physical card, or show the digital card from your delivery email, when it’s time to pay.
- The cashier scans or keys in the card number to apply the balance to your total.
- Pay any remaining balance with another method if the order costs more than the card.
For a digital gift card, have the number and PIN from the email ready on your phone so the cashier can enter them if the card can’t be scanned.
What You Can Buy with a Chipotle Gift Card
A Chipotle gift card pays for food and drink at Chipotle — burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas, sides, chips and guac, and beverages, whether you order ahead online, in the app, or at the counter. The same card works for pickup orders and for delivery placed through chipotle.com or the app.
It doesn’t cover orders placed through third-party delivery marketplaces like DoorDash or Grubhub, and gift cards issued by those services are not Chipotle gift cards — they won’t load on chipotle.com or in the Chipotle app. Note too that buying or reloading a gift card does not earn Chipotle Rewards points.
- Use it for: in-app, online, and in-restaurant orders for pickup or Chipotle-run delivery across the U.S.
- Best match: a regular Chipotle customer who wants prepaid balance on their account without putting a card on file for every order.
Why Your Chipotle Gift Card Isn’t Working
Most Chipotle gift card problems trace to one of four causes. Match the message you saw to the section below before contacting support — the fix is usually a quick check on the card or the surface you’re ordering from.
The card isn’t activated or has no balance yet
A card has to be activated before it carries a balance, and a card received by mail can need online activation per the instructions in its packaging. If the card reads as empty right after purchase, give activation a few minutes, confirm the balance, and if it’s still zero, contact the place you bought it from.
“Invalid card” — wrong number or PIN
This is almost always a typo. Re-enter the 16-digit card number and the PIN carefully — for a digital card, copy them straight from the delivery email rather than retyping. Entering the wrong PIN repeatedly can temporarily lock the card as a fraud precaution, so slow down and verify each character before resubmitting.
The app rejects a card that the website accepts
The Chipotle app accepts only one payment method per order, so a gift card with a balance lower than your total fails at app checkout. Place the order on chipotle.com instead — the website lets you split the bill between the gift card and a credit or debit card.
The card is from a delivery service, or you’re outside the U.S.
Chipotle gift cards work in the United States only and won’t load on a non-U.S. order. Separately, a “Chipotle” credit issued by DoorDash, Grubhub, or another delivery marketplace is not a Chipotle gift card and can only be used inside that service — it will never add to your Chipotle account.
