How to Redeem an Amazon Gift Card

Web, app, or checkout — and how to fix a claim code that won't apply

Amazon stores the value as account balance, not a code you re-enter every order. Apply the claim code once on any surface below and it covers your next eligible purchase automatically.

How to Apply an Amazon Gift Card to Your Balance

To redeem an Amazon gift card, go to amazon.com/redeem, sign in to your account, enter the 14- to 15-character claim code, and select Apply to Your Balance. The funds land in your Amazon Gift Card balance immediately and apply automatically to your next eligible order — there is no need to re-enter the code at checkout.

Where to Enter Your Amazon Gift Card Claim Code

Amazon takes the same claim code in three places: the website, the Amazon shopping app, or the payment step at checkout. Wherever you enter it, the value is stored as your Amazon.com Balance on the account you are signed in to and spends automatically on eligible orders. The card must match the Amazon marketplace it was issued for.

On the Web (amazon.com/redeem)

The web shortcut is the fastest path and works from any browser. It applies the value straight to your account balance rather than to a single order.

  1. Go to amazon.com/redeem and sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Enter the claim code in the field provided — dashes are not required.
  3. Select Apply to Your Balance.
  4. The value is added to your Amazon Gift Card balance and applies to your next eligible order.

If the shortcut doesn’t load, you can reach the same screen from Account & Lists → Your Account → Gift Cards → Redeem a Gift Card.

In the Amazon Shopping App

The Amazon app on iPhone and Android redeems codes through the account menu, which is handy when the card is in hand and you are away from a computer.

  1. Open the Amazon app and sign in.
  2. Tap the three-line menu, then tap Account.
  3. Under Payments, tap Manage gift card balance, then Redeem a gift card.
  4. Enter the claim code and select Apply to Your Balance.

At Checkout

If you would rather apply the value to a single purchase, enter the code on the payment screen while placing an order instead of redeeming it ahead of time.

  1. Add your items to the cart and proceed to checkout.
  2. In the payment section, select Use a gift card, voucher, or promo code.
  3. Enter the claim code and select Apply.
  4. The balance covers the order total; any remainder bills to your default payment method.

What Your Amazon Gift Card Balance Covers

Once applied, the value becomes Amazon.com Balance and spends like prepaid funds across Amazon. Use it for physical products, digital downloads, Kindle books, Amazon Music and Appstore purchases, and subscriptions billed to your Amazon balance such as Prime or eligible Subscribe & Save orders sold by Amazon.

The balance does not cover purchases on a different country’s Amazon store, and Amazon does not let you transfer it to another account or cash it out. Treat it as account credit tied to one Amazon account and one marketplace.

  • Use it for: products sold on Amazon, Kindle books, digital content, Prime, and most eligible orders in your marketplace.
  • Best match: a shopper who wants to fund their Amazon account without putting a card on file or using a foreign payment method.

Why Your Amazon Gift Card Claim Code Isn’t Working

Most Amazon redemption failures come down to the marketplace the card was issued for, too many failed attempts, or a misread character. Match the message you saw to the section below before contacting support.

The card is for a different Amazon marketplace

Amazon gift cards are tied to one country’s marketplace and currency — a US card applies only on amazon.com, a UK card only on amazon.co.uk, and so on. Redeeming on the wrong regional site returns an error even with a valid code. Sign in to the Amazon store that matches the card’s region and redeem there.

“Claim code lock” after several failed tries

If an incorrect code is entered several times in a short window, Amazon temporarily locks the claim code as a security measure. This is not a bad card — wait a few hours, then enter the correct code carefully. Repeated wrong attempts only extend the lock.

The code is invalid or unrecognized

This is almost always a typo. The claim code is 14 to 15 alphanumeric characters; watch for a letter “O” entered as a zero, an “I” as a “1”, or a stray space. Re-enter it exactly — for a digital card, copy and paste the code straight from the delivery email rather than retyping it.

“This code has already been applied”

The code has already been redeemed, often to a different Amazon account than the one you are signed in to. Check the balance on each account you use. If you bought the card from MyGiftCardSupply and never redeemed it, contact MyGiftCardSupply support with your order number — codes are verified before delivery and replacements are handled on the seller side.

A damaged or scratched physical code

If the claim code on a physical card is scratched off or unreadable, Amazon can look it up from the card’s serial number — contact Amazon customer service with the long serial printed on the back. Digital codes from MyGiftCardSupply arrive in full by email, so this only affects retail cards.

Buying Another Amazon Gift Card Online

Shoppers come back for another Amazon gift card for a few reasons: they spent the balance from the first one, they need a card for a different Amazon marketplace than their own, or an overseas payment card was declined at Amazon checkout. A gift card adds account balance directly, without putting a new payment method on file.

Buy an Amazon gift card online from MyGiftCardSupply — claim codes are delivered by email for the marketplace you choose, so you can apply the value to your balance the same day you order.
